Angels blow six-run lead in ninth when Steve Pearce hits walk-off grand slam for Blue Jays

Angels blow six-run lead in ninth when Steve Pearce hits walk-off grand slam for Blue Jays

The 2017 Angels are not a great ballclub, but until Sunday afternoon in Toronto, they had preserved leads like one. They were the only team in the sport to win every game they once led by three runs this season.

They soiled that feat in mortifying fashion at Rogers Centre, frittering away a six-run,…

There was some relief with Angels’ latest victory, 6-5 over Blue Jays

There was some relief with Angels

The relay throw from Kole Calhoun traveled rapidly to Andrelton Simmons, and the Angels shortstop decided before receipt that he’d keep the chain going and try to eke an out at third base. He transferred the baseball from his glove to his hand and let go without choosing his target. It landed in…

Parker Bridwell rises up as the Angels sink Blue Jays

Parker Bridwell rises up as the Angels sink Blue Jays

Parker Bridwell’s pitching philosophy is simple, necessitated by reality. He does not have the extreme velocity or natural action on his pitches to strike out gobs of major league hitters. He does have a willingness to engage.

“I’m gonna throw my stuff up there and see if you can hit it,” Bridwell…

What’s in a name? This ‘Bud’ is for you

How did David Norris become Bud Norris, the Angels’ closer?

Here’s the story behind it:

At a Mexican restaurant in Oakland sometime around 1988, David Norris’ father, grandfather and uncle ordered Budweisers, using the shortened term — I’ll have a Bud.

So a 3-year-old David asked for the same,…
